Abdominal Six Pack – training tips

Abdominal six pack training has been written about many times but people are still not doing it right. Repetition of the significant factors will be covered off here.

At the beginning it should be restated that spot reducing to show off the abs will not work. Many people start looking for ways to lose their belly fat and begin by exercising their abdominal six pack muscles without exercising any other muscles in the hope that they will miraculously appear. No consideration is allowed for the legs, arms, or back, and the abs are over done.

This has little benefit because of the small relative muscle size which does not use many calories and will therefore provide very limited advantage in losing fat.

In order to show off the abs the fat needs to be eliminated, and there are better ways of doing this than exercising the abs themselves. This is not to say that the abs do need some training but high reps of high intensity are not required to get good results. The abdominal six pack muscles will develop, but it is better to increase the loading and keep the reps under 25.

With work the abdominals will develop but will only be seen once the fat layer on the gut is eliminated. The abdominal six pack muscles do not require much direct exercise because the core strengthening exercises also work the abs.

To work the abs any workout that can incorporate the large leg muscles, while carrying weight, will have a beneficial effect. Routines that involve deadlifts and squats will be great for this as will standing and seated presses, pulldowns, dumbbell pullovers, stiff-arm pushdowns, cross-bench dumbbell pullovers, and tricep pushdowns all engage the abdominal six pack muscles in a very effective way.

These abdominal six pack muscles may be there but won’t be seen until the fat layer is eliminated. The aim is to reduce the fat layer through an evenly weighted exercise and nutrition routine rather than just concentrating on the abs.

The training program needs to be balanced and regular so that all body parts are exercised, with aspects of both weight training and cardio, combined with a good diet and results will start to show.
